Together with our owners Metro Service has won the contract for operation and maintenance of the Copenhagen Metro since 2002. In this period, we have won several prizes and exported our knowledge and experience to both Italy and Saudi Arabia.

History

1999 Ansaldo STS selects Metro Service to operate and maintain the Copenhagen Metro M1 & M2 for five years, from 19 October 2002

2007 Metro Service's contract for Copenhagen Metro M1 and M2 is extended to the end of 2010

2010 Ansaldo STS, with Metro Service as the operator, is re-awarded the 5-year contract for Copenhagen Metro M1 and M2 as one of six tenderers in an EU tender competition

2011 Metro Service is chosen by International Metro Service S.p.A. to mobilise, operate and maintain the Metro at Princess Noura University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

2011 Ansaldo STS with Metro Service as an operator wins the contract for Cityringen, one of two tenderers in an EU tender competition

2015 Ansaldo STS/Metro Service's contract for Copenhagen Metro M1 and M2 is extended to the end of 2018

2016 Metro Service is pre-qualified to bid on the Ring 3 Light Rail, one of three tenderers in an EU tender competition

2017 Metro Service is pre-qualified to bid on the Odense Light Rail, one of five tenderes in an EU tender competition

2017 Metro Service wins the contract for Copenhagen Metro M1+M2 in an EU tender competition. The contract will run from January 1st 2019 for 5 years and 7 months

2018 Metro Service wins the contract for Hovedstadens Letbane in an EU tender competition. The contract will run from the second half of 2024 for 15 years.

2019 One of Metro Service's owners, Ansaldo STS, changes name to Hitachi STS. 


2019 Metro Service regained the contract for M1 + M2 in 2018 and started operation of M1 + M2 under a new contract directly with Metroselskabet in 2020.


2019 M3 Cityringen opened with 17 new stations in central Copenhagen. Operates M3 as a subcontractor to Hitachi STS.


2020 M4 opened between Copenhagen H and Orientkaj in Nordhavn. M4 will be expanded to Sydhavn in 2024. Operates M4 as a subcontractor to Hitachi STS


2020 Metro Services' operating and maintenance contracts for M1 + M2 and M3 + M4 were extended to 2027.

 

2024 M4 to Sydhavnen is expected to open.


2025 The light railway "Hovedstadens Letbane" is expected to open.
